Job Description: Draftsman

A draftsman plays a crucial role in the architectural and engineering fields, as well as other sectors that require detailed technical drawings and plans. This position involves creating accurate and visually appealing technical drawings, blueprints, and diagrams using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The draftsman works in collaboration with engineers, architects, and other professionals to develop and revise these drawings, ensuring they meet industry standards and specific project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare Technical Drawings: Create comprehensive two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) drawings using CAD software, including but not limited to architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural plans.

2. Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with architects, engineers, and other professionals to understand project specifications, requirements, and constraints. Interpret sketches, sketches, and notes to translate them into precise technical drawings.

3. Revise and Modify Drawings: Review and revise existing drawings based on project updates, feedback, or required modifications. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to industry standards in all revised drawings.

4. Maintain Document Control: Organize, maintain, and update drawing files, databases, and records to ensure easy accessibility and reference for the project team. Assist with the management of document control systems, version control, and revision tracking.

5. Follow Design Standards: Adhere to established design standards, guidelines, and best practices while creating technical drawings. Understand and implement relevant industry codes, regulations, and specifications to ensure compliance and safety.

6. Quality Assurance: Conduct regular checks and reviews of drawings for accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Identify and rectify errors, inconsistencies, or discrepancies as necessary. Ensure all drawings are properly annotated, referenced, and labeled.

7. Communication and Collaboration: Effectively communicate and collaborate with project team members to clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and implement changes. Attend meetings and contribute to discussions related to design development and construction progress.

8. Research and Stay Updated: Continuously learn and apply new drafting techniques, software tools, and industry trends. Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in drafting to enhance work efficiency and productivity.

Requirements:

- Proven experience as a draftsman or similar role, preferably in architectural or engineering fields.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.) and associated tools.
- Strong technical drawing skills, attention to detail, and ability to accurately interpret sketches, specifications, and design concepts.
- Knowledge of design principles, industry standards, and construction processes.
- Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and permits relevant to the specific domain (architecture, civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Problem-solving mindset, willingness to learn, and adaptability to changing project requirements.
- Associate degree or certification in drafting, engineering, architecture, or a related field is desirable.
